Mokaya Frida Boyani Named Chief Registrar of Judiciary by JSC


NAIROBI – The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the appointment of Mokaya Frida Boyani as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, a pivotal role she is set to hold for the next five years. Mokaya’s selection came after an extensive review process that began with interviews on March 18, 2024, involving six other candidates, from a pool of 43 applicants seeking the position.



According to Kenya News Agency, Chairperson Martha Koome highlighted that Mokaya’s appointment was the result of meticulous deliberations by the commission, emphasizing that her selection was grounded in merit, her performance record, and her suitability for the high-profile position. Mokaya brings over 27 years of experience within the legal field to her new role. Since 2012, she has served diligently as the Registrar for the Judicial Service Commission, showcasing her commitment and expertise within the judiciary framework.



Throughout her career, Mokaya has ascended through various levels of the judiciary, starting in 1997 and progressing through positions such as District Magistrate II(Prof), Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, and Senior Principal Magistrate. These roles have significantly contributed to her comprehensive understanding and approach to judicial responsibilities.



In her statement, Mokaya expressed her commitment to propelling the judiciary forward by aligning with the Chief Justice’s vision of a judiciary marked by accountability, efficiency, effectiveness, and integrity. She outlined her primary objectives, which include enhancing the Social Transformation through Access to Justice agenda, advancing a people-centred justice model, and improving resource management within the judiciary. Mokaya emphasized her focus on streamlining judicial policies and management practices to ensure clear role definitions and efficient division of labor within the Judiciary.



Mokaya holds academic credentials that include a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, further solidifying her legal acumen. Additionally, she is a Certified Public Secretary, which complements her extensive legal background and experience.
