Sidwaya Marks 40th Anniversary with Colorful Ceremony in Bobo-Dioulasso


Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso – The Western Regional Directorate (DRO) of Editions Sidwaya commemorated the 40th anniversary of the daily Sidwaya with a vibrant ceremony on April 5, 2024, in Bobo-Dioulasso. The event featured a symbolic raising of the national colors, celebrating four decades since the newspaper’s inception on April 5, 1984, under the leadership of President Thomas Sankara and the National Council of the Revolution.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the Western Regional Director, the ceremony was not only a tribute to the newspaper’s founders but also an acknowledgment of the ongoing efforts and dedication of the current staff. Ouédraogo highlighted the importance of Sidwaya’s mission to provide reliable information and praised the team for their commitment to public service.



Sermé Sitta, head of the Finance and Accounting Department at the DRO and a long-standing employee since 1997, emphasized the commemoration as a meaningful gesture of loyalty and dedication. She encouraged readers to continue supporting Sidwaya, referring to it as “the newspaper of all Burkinabè people,” known for its trustworthy reporting.



Alassane Nombré, a distributor for Sidwaya newspapers since October 14, 1986, shared his journey with the publication, noting the significant growth and evolution of Sidwaya over the years. From its modest beginnings selling at 75 CFA francs per copy to the current price of 300 CFA francs, Nombré reflected on his entire career spent with the newspaper and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve its readership.



Sidwaya’s ruby jubilee in Bobo-Dioulasso serves as a testament to the newspaper’s enduring legacy and its role in Burkina Faso’s media landscape, celebrating a history of dedication to journalistic integrity and public service.
