Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to participate in the extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels (25 February 2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias will participate today, Friday, February 25, 2022, in the extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will take place in Brussels.

The Foreign Affairs Council is convened for an extraordinary session following yesterday’s extraordinary EU Summit, in which the Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis participated, in order for the Foreign Ministers of the 27 EU member states to discuss the unfolding situation in Ukraine following the Russian attack and coordinate to impose restrictive measures on Russia.

Prior to his departure for Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held a series of meetings with foreign officials.

In particular, last night he held a phone call with the US Under Secretary of State, V. Nuland, as well as with the US Ambassador to Athens.

Also yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Ambassadors of Ukraine, Poland and Estonia, as well as with the Chargés d’Affaires of Latvia and Lithuania.

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held successive meetings with the Ambassadors of France and the United Kingdom.

Afterwards, the Minister of Foreign Affairs chaired a second meeting of the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Due to his departure for the FAC, the Minister of Foreign Affairs asked the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Th. Demiris, to meet with the Ambassador of China.

Following the abovementioned meetings, the round of contacts with all the Ambassadors, in Athens, of the states that are Permanent Members of the UN Security Council is completed.
