Passoré: Provincial Leaders Present New Year Greetings to Naba-Djiguèmdé of Yako at Napoussoum Festival


Yako, Burkina Faso – In a ceremony steeped in tradition, a delegation of provincial authorities from Passoré, led by High Commissioner Daouda Sangaré, presented their New Year greetings to His Majesty Naba-Djiguèmdé, the Chief of Yako, on Sunday, January 21, 2024. This event took place during the annual Napoussoum festival, a customary celebration at the royal palace of Naba Yelkouni in the city of Yako.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the visit was a customary practice aimed at offering the administrative authorities’ well-wishes for the New Year to the Dima of Yako. In addition to extending their greetings, the delegation sought blessings and support from His Majesty Naba-Djiguèmdé for their missions in the Passoré province. The group included provincial directors, heads of service, and military and paramilitary authorities.



Gombila Kaola, the provincial director in charge of Culture for Passoré, articulated wishes for health, peace, a prosperous reign, and security to the customary chiefdom. In response, Naba-Djiguèmdé expressed his gratitude, particularly commending the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) for their ongoing efforts to maintain tranquility and stability in the province. He voiced his hope that the new year would bring success to these forces and reassured them of his support.



His Majesty also underscored the importance of cultivating peace, solidarity, and social cohesion within the community. The Napoussoum festival was not only a time for ceremonial greetings but also a gathering of notable personalities from the locality. Among the attendees were former Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Colonel Boukaré Zoungrana, the former Director General of Customs, Mathias Kadiogo, as well as officials from political parties in the Passoré province.



The event highlighted the significance of traditional practices in Burkina Faso and the role they play in fostering community bonds and mutual support among political, cultural, and military leaders in the region.
