Otjiwarongo Municipality Unveils New Fleet for Roadworks and Maintenance


OTJIWARONGO: The Otjiwarongo Municipality has officially unveiled a new fleet of earthworks machinery to enhance its road construction and maintenance capabilities. Governor of Otjozondjupa, James Uerikua, officiated the event near Karundu Primary School, emphasizing the importance of the new equipment for the town’s infrastructure development.



According to The Namibia Press Agency, The fleet, costing N.dollars 10.7 million, includes a grader, roller compactor, front-end loader, and a 14,000-litre water tank truck. Uerikua highlighted the strategic significance of Otjiwarongo, a town with approximately 45,000 inhabitants, in the region’s economic landscape. The announcement also included the commencement of phase two rehabilitation and upgrading of Henk Willems Street. The project, costing N.dollars 5.5 million, will involve interlocking, signboard erection, and culvert construction over a distance of one kilometre. Uerikua called on the municipality to use the funds from the Road Fund Administration, amounting to N.dollars 31 million, to repair roads with potholes. Mayor Gottlieb Shivute underlined the council’s commitment to developing robust and cost-effective road infrastructure for community development. The Henk Willems Street rehabilitation is expected to be completed by May 2024.
