Léraba Students Commemorate School Founder Dr. Seydou Traoré


SINDOU, Burkina Faso — On May 11, 2024, the Léraba Provincial High School hosted a tribute event in Sindou to honor its late founder, Dr. Seydou Traoré. The ceremony, chaired by Mahamadi Congo, High Commissioner of Léraba province, marked a significant day of remembrance and celebration under the theme “Tribute to Dr. Seydou Traoré: Mechanisms to Foster a Culture of Excellence.”



According to Burkina Information Agency, the principal of the school, the event was the first of its kind and was initiated by the students and their principal during discussions on end-of-year cultural activities. The school, initially established as a general education college on August 10, 1988, was renamed in honor of Dr. Traoré following an educational decree on October 14, 2014.



The day’s activities included the presentation of the “Dr. Seydou Traoré Prize,” awarded to top students and contributors to educational excellence within the school. The event also featured a conference on Dr. Traoré’s life, direct interactions with his sons, and a fundraising effort for a monument to be erected in his honor. The first stone of the monument was laid by provincial authorities during the ceremony.



Among the attendees were administrative and traditional leaders, along with an Ivorian delegation accompanying Dr. Traoré’s three sons. Ibrahim Traoré, a banker from Ivory Coast and son of the deceased, who sponsored the ceremony, committed to supporting future editions of the event.
