Chemolingot: Leaders from Tiaty constituency, led by Member of Parliament William Kamket, have advocated for the elevation of Chemolingot town to municipality status, highlighting the potential for economic growth and development in the area. During the 65th Mashujaa Day celebrations at Michuki grounds, the leaders pressed the Baringo County government to expedite this transformation, emphasizing the town’s increasing population and economic activities.

According to Kenya News Agency, MP William Kamket pointed to the recent establishment of a Kenya Medical Training College in Chemolingot as evidence of the town’s capability to support enhanced social and economic activities. Kamket argued that Chemolingot’s development was significantly delayed and now required urgent official elevation to town status to match its growth in population, business, and educational institutions.

Furthermore, Kamket called for the completion of the land adjudication process for Chemolingot and surrounding areas to clarify land o
wnership, which he believes will attract more investment. He emphasized the importance of proper town planning to clearly define residential and commercial areas for the establishment of public utilities.

During the event, which was also attended by Governor Benjamin Cheboi and County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa, over Sh 400 million from the Equalization Fund was discussed. This fund is expected to support key projects in water, health, roads, and energy sectors in Chemolingot. Governor Cheboi confirmed that the county administration had already surveyed 102 plots, with further adjudication ongoing. He encouraged professionals and plot owners to invest in accommodation facilities for students and officers, highlighting the current lack of such amenities.

County Commissioner Kutwa outlined the government’s plans to enhance service delivery locally, including the opening of new offices for key services like registration of persons, to reduce the need for residents to travel to distant towns for such services.
Kutwa also handed over 180 birth certificates and discussed plans to gazette more sub-counties in the region, utilizing chiefs and National Government Administration Officers to oversee these changes.
