Cycling: Igor Silva revalidates title at the National Police GP

Benguela – By winning today, Sunday, the thirty kilometer race in a closed circuit held at Praia Morena, cyclist Igor Silva, from the Jair Transportes team, revalidated the title of champion of the National Police Grand Prix.

Herlander António and Agnaldo Sassinde, both from Jair Transportes, from the province of Benguela, occupied the next places on the podium and in the general classification.

It should be remembered that Igor Silva had already won, last Saturday, the 110 kilometer long distance race, with a time of 2h25 minutes, disputed between the city of Benguela and the commune of Dombe Grande (Baía Farta).

In the end, Igor Silva praised the National Police’s initiative in holding the Grand Prix which, in his view, is an added value for discovering new cycling talents in Benguela and beyond.

The winner congratulated the organization of the race and supports the idea of its internationalization, with the participation of athletes from neighboring countries, with a view to boosting competitions at African level.

Meanwhile, the provincial commander of the National Police in Benguela, Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, guaranteed that events of the kind will continue, in order to contribute to the popularization of the sport in its various levels.

“We will continue to make our modest contribution to preserving the great icon of cycling in Angola and in the world, Alberto da Silva (Pepino)”, he said.

The president of the Provincial Cycling Association of Benguela, Fernando Furtado, informed that several competitions are scheduled this year, at local level, focusing on the preparation of athletes for national and international competitions.

The 2nd edition of the National Police Grand Prix (47 Years) had the participation of 35 athletes from the provinces of Benguela, Luanda and Huíla. Seven teams: Jair Transportes, Hotel Luso, Pepino School, 2 Rodas, Nossa Senhora da Graça, all from Benguela, Kilamba Cycling Club (Luanda) and Lubango Cycling School (Huíla), were represented.
