Labola Celebrates Fifth Difan-Gbar Harvest Festival with Focus on Social Cohesion


Labola, Comoé – The fifth edition of the Difan-Gbar, or new harvest festival, was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Labola, Canton of Karaborola, under the leadership of His Majesty Maouran Tolé Sagnon, Chief of the Canton. The festival is a significant cultural event aimed at fostering social cohesion, unity, and fraternity among the diverse communities within the canton.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the Difan-Gbar serves as a platform for cultural promotion, entertainment, and integration, essential in a region characterized by its ethnic diversity. The festival also seeks to educate and engage the local populations in promoting their cultural and socio-economic development.



This year’s festival emphasized the celebration and promotion of local cultural values. Amidst a national backdrop of conflict, the 2024 edition of Difan-Gbar highlighted the importance of community solidarity in defending the inhabitants, villages, and territorial integrity of the Canton of Karaborola, the province of Comoé, and the wider Cascades region.



The Secretary General of the Cascades region, Toussaint Méda, representing the governor, praised the initiative. Méda recognized the efforts of the Canton Chief in rallying community support against regional threats and fostering a spirit of unity among the various groups within the canton.



Aristide Boudou, the General Director of African Mining and sponsor of this year’s festival, expressed his pleasure and satisfaction with the festival’s role in bringing together all communities of the Canton of Karaborola to celebrate their collective heritage and values.
