Kordié Community Rallies Financial Support for Local Defense Volunteers

KORDIÉ — A community fundraising event led by the president of the special delegation, Gueswendé Léopold Segueda, has successfully raised 266,000 CFA francs in support of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), announced on June 29, 2024, at the Kordié town hall.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Gueswendé Léopold Segueda, the initiative was launched to gather community support for the VDP, specifically to aid in the plastering of four combat posts at their headquarters, enhancing their operational capabilities. The fundraiser saw participation from nine of the sixteen Village Development Councils (CVD) within the commune, with contributions ranging up to 266,000 CFA francs collectively. Additional pledges were made by those unable to attend, promising future donations.

The funds are earmarked for necessary refurbishments to the VDP’s facilities, which are crucial for maintaining their efficiency in adverse weather conditions. The local population’s enthusiasm to support the VDP was evident, with contributions exceeding initial commitments—some villages raised their contributions to between 25,000 and 30,000 francs, despite initial promises of 10,000 to 20,000 francs.

The local secretary-general and the head of the national police station were also present to acknowledge the community’s generous contributions. This event follows a prior successful collection that raised over 600,000 francs towards the peace efforts in the region. The continued financial support from Kordié residents underscores their commitment to ensuring the safety and operational success of their local defense volunteers.
