Sanmatenga: A project delivers birth certificates to internally displaced people

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the communes of Namsiguima, Barsalogho and Pissila in the province of Sanmatenga (Centre-Nord) benefited, on Monday March 20, 2023, from extracts of birth certificates, issued by the Victory over Malnutrition Plus (ViM Plus) project.

The ceremony of delivery of civil birth certificates was held during a workshop-assessment led by the high commissioner of the province of Sanmatenga, Abraham Somdo.

At the end of the delivery operation, 5,098 acts of supplementary judgments for birth certificates were drawn up out of a forecast of 5,057, ie a completion rate of 100.81%, according to the managers of the Victory on Malnutrition VimPlus project.

According to the first official of the province of Sanmatenga, the results are considered satisfactory, in view of the number of birth certificates established with the financial support of the ViMPlus project.

Abraham Somdo expressed his gratitude to the donor who allowed the beneficiary local authorities to relieve the women and children who lost or did not have their identity documents, in this difficult security crisis context.

The operations manager, Ousséni Kombem also praised the efforts made by the actors to achieve results.

In terms of difficulties encountered, the focal point of the operation, Lamoussa Compaoré listed, in particular the inaccessibility of villages due to insecurity, the lack of coordination of actors such as the departmental courts (prefectures), town halls and local project implementing partners (PLEPS).

Launched on September 15, 2022, the operation to issue birth certificates aimed to ensure the full participation of internally displaced women and children.

This pilot phase should serve as a springboard to reach the other provinces of the Center-North region, namely Bam and Namentenga.
