Léo: Sixty People Regain Sight in Sissili Ophthalmological Campaign Led by German Surgeons

In the city of Léo, the German medical and surgical center “Dr Boukaré Sebego,” in partnership with a German team operieren in Africa, conducted an ophthalmological surgery campaign from October 8 to 14, 2023.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the director of the German Léo medical center, approximately forty individuals suffering from cataracts were treated by Doctor Andrea and his team during the week-long campaign. Additionally, corrective lenses were provided to 600 people with low visual acuity.

Mr. Ouédraogo highlighted the introduction of laser treatment for glaucoma as a major innovation, stating that around twenty patients received this treatment. Patients were not charged for the interventions; however, they were responsible for the cost of implants. The director expressed satisfaction over the improvements in visual acuity reported by the patients and credited the campaign with significantly enhancing the quality of life for the beneficiaries. He also expressed gratitude towards the German team for their assistance.
