LUANDA: Economist António Feliciano Braça said on Tuesday that US President Joe Biden’s visit represents, in a way, the milestone in the reformulation of political and, above all, economic relations that will open up new investment prospects for Angola. The US president started a three-day state visit to Angola on Monday, which includes a meeting with President João Lourenço and a trip to Benguela province, home to the Lobito Corridor, which includes the regions of Huambo, Bié, and Moxico.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the economist highlighted that Joe Biden’s presence will strengthen bilateral relations with Angola and Africa in general, focusing on political and particularly economic exchanges. He emphasized Angola’s global influence in political, economic, and industrial terms, noting President Biden’s visit as a pivotal moment in US economic management and international relations.
António Feliciano Braça also elaborated on the dynamics of the economic circuit, mentioning the interconnected rol
es of states, companies, banks, families, and the essential external world. He stressed that no nation, including the United States, operates in isolation and must engage with others to sustain its global hegemony.
Bilateral relations between Angola and the US have flourished over the last three decades, evolving into strategic partnerships marked by political-diplomatic and cooperation ties. This has led to the signing of numerous legal instruments across social, commercial, and business domains. In 2023, bilateral trade reached approximately 1.77 billion dollars, positioning Angola as Washington’s fourth-largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa. Diplomatic relations between Angola and the United States were formally established in 1993.
