Japanese Business Federation Eyes Expansion in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa – A delegation from the Japanese Business Federation, along with representatives from twelve companies and led by Managing Director Ichiro Hara, engaged in discussions with Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew. The talks, aimed at exploring opportunities to enhance trade and investment ties between Japan and Ethiopia, were marked by the state minister’s appreciation of the delegation’s intent to participate in Ethiopia’s development efforts. Semereta Sewasew encouraged the Japanese firms to explore the nation’s investment potential, signaling a welcome for more Japanese enterprises to engage in the Ethiopian market.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the delegation expressed their eagerness to expand trade and investment, inquiring about Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms, and opportunities in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and energy. The presence of Shibata Hironori, Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ethiopia, alongside senior representatives from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored the significance of the discussions for bilateral relations.
