OUAGADOUGOU: The Ministry of Agriculture in Burkina Faso has announced the arrest of several individuals following the discovery of an abandoned state-owned tractor in the South-West region. The tractor, intended for free use by local producers, was left in Gbombrola, raising concerns over the management of state-provided agricultural equipment.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tractor was allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources for free plowing. The vehicle became stuck in the mud and was abandoned since August 2024 while en route to a producer’s field. The incident has prompted an investigation into the misuse of state resources.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of proper management of agricultural equipment, highlighting that the tractors are distributed to local authorities for deployment. They urged all stakeholders involved in the management of such resources to ensure their proper use. The Ministry also encouraged the rural population to report any s
uspected mismanagement of agricultural materials to a designated toll-free number as part of ongoing efforts to maintain accountability.
