Homa Bay, In a serious breach of school discipline, students at God Bura Secondary School assaulted their Principal, leading to heightened investigations by Homa Bay County authorities. The incident, which involved students reportedly attacking Principal Collins Omondi over grievances with the school’s management, is currently under joint investigation by the Ministry of Education and local security personnel.
According to Kenya News Agency, the assault took place after the students were allegedly served porridge without sugar. A subsequent police report disclosed that Mr. Omondi suffered considerable injuries earlier in the week when the students turned violent. Initial findings indicate the students attempted to forcibly take Mr. Omondi to the police station; upon his resistance, they began to physically assault him until the police and some parents intervened.
Commander Kine confirmed that the investigation was progressing and nearing its final stages. The incident has sparked outrage within educational circles. The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman in Suba, Paul Mbara, has decried the violence, noting the injuries Mr. Omondi sustained to his chest. Following the attack, the principal received medical attention at Magunga Level Four Hospital and was subsequently referred to another facility for further X-ray examinations.
Mr. Mbara criticized the violent approach taken by the students and called for the establishment of alternative mechanisms to resolve disputes. He further highlighted the potential negative impact such unrest could have on academic performance within schools.
