Gourcy Community Medical Center Hosts Open Days to Promote Health Services

Gourcy, Zondoma – The Gourcy community medical center recently opened its doors to the local population with a series of open days from May 9 to 11, 2024, offering free consultations and health screenings to increase awareness of its services.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the medical director of the center, the initiative was designed to enhance community health engagement and disease prevention. The center provided free screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and hepatitis B, and offered consultations in various specialties including general medicine, ophthalmology, and ENT among others.

The open days also included radio broadcasts and film screenings led by specialist doctors to educate the community on preventive measures for chronic diseases. Fatimata Sawadogo, a resident of sector 2 in Gourcy, expressed gratitude for the free medical consultation she received, reflecting the positive reception from the community. Many attendees awaited their turn in tents set up for the event to access the health services provided.

The Gourcy community medical center, which opened in November 2018, provides a wide range of medical services daily and operates 24 hours a day. It features departments for medical imaging, an analysis laboratory, an operating theater, and hospitalization rooms. Specialized care in gynecology-obstetrics, cardiology, pulmonology, and other fields is available, alongside periodic free treatments for noma cases.

The initiative drew the attention of the High Commissioner of Zondoma province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé, who visited the center during the event. He commended the efforts of the center’s staff and encouraged the public to heed the advice of the medical specialists, affirming the value of such initiatives for community health.
