Ouagadougou: The motion of censure filed by the opposition party, the New Popular Front, was adopted on Wednesday with 331 votes, leading to the fall of Michel Barnier’s government, just three months after his appointment as Prime Minister, several media sources report. This decisive move by the opposition marks a significant political shift in France, as the New Popular Front successfully orchestrated the end of Barnier’s brief tenure.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the motion of censure tabled by the French opposition has ended the mandate of the Barnier government. The situation was anticipated by many, given Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s controversial decision to force through the 2025 budget project by activating Article 49.3, which had provoked significant opposition.

Michel Barnier is now expected to present his letter of resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, concluding his short-lived period in office. However, the political ramifications extend beyond Barnier’s resignation, as the l
eft has also called for President Macron to step down, casting uncertainty over his future.

Despite these calls for his resignation, President Macron has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down, regardless of the circumstances. This stance suggests that France is poised for a period of political turbulence as it navigates the fallout from the government’s collapse.
