Floods in Somalia Claim 96 Lives, including 28 in Al-Shabaab-Linked Boat Capsize

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, addressed the media in a press conference, revealing the devastating impact of recent floods in Somalia. He reported a tragic loss of 96 lives, including 28 individuals who perished in a boat capsize linked to Al-Shabaab terrorists.

According to Somali National News Agency, the floods have had a widespread effect across the country, impacting over 2.3 million people and displacing more than 900,000. The death toll currently stands at 96, with 28 fatalities occurring in a boat capsizing incident following interference by Al-Shabaab militants. Additionally, six individuals were injured in the tragedy. The Commissioner detailed the extensive loss of livestock, approximately 4,000 animals, and significant property damage, including over 136,045 items such as houses and vehicles. He highlighted the efforts of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, which has provided aid to at least 10,619 households, supplemented by other agencies reaching around 18,216 households, totaling aid to 24,251 households in the nation.
