Fada N’Gourma Gendarmerie Detains Smugglers for Fuel Sales in Terrorist-Controlled Regions

FADA N’GOURMA – In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the territorial gendarmerie brigade of Fada N’Gourma has apprehended a group of smugglers involved in the illicit sale of fuel. The individuals arrested were found to be packaging fuel in Ouagadougou, only to resell it in Namounou, an area currently under the influence of terrorist groups. This operation sheds light on the dangerous intersection of smuggling and regional security threats.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the smugglers purchased approximately 300 cans of fuel for around 4,050,000 CFA francs and subsequently resold them in the terror-prone areas for over 12,000,000 CFA francs. This illicit trade enabled the smugglers to realize a profit margin of almost 200%, highlighting the substantial financial incentives driving such illegal endeavors. The gendarmerie’s action against these activities represents a critical effort to disrupt the supply chains that potentially support terrorist operations in the region.
