Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces Neutralize Terrorists in Defensive Operations Across the Country

OUAGADOUGOU – Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces have successfully repelled multiple terrorist attacks across various regions, neutralizing assailants who were seemingly attempting to avenge the recent losses of their comrades. This decisive military action, involving both ground troops and aerial support, took place in the Sahel, Center-North, and Center-East regions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The attacks were launched by terrorists in several locations as a presumed act of retribution for their comrades killed in recent operations. However, the Burkina Faso military, utilizing combat helicopters and ground commandos, effectively countered these assaults. On the night of November 21 to 22, 2023, a large group of attackers on motorcycles departed from the north of Djibo in the Sahel region towards Pobe Mengao. Despite their initial plan to ambush a convoy in Djibo, they were tracked by aerial surveillance and subsequently targeted by combat helicopters.

In a separate incident in Ouargaye, around a hundred terrorists assailed a position held by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in Méné. After being vigorously repelled, the attackers retreated to the Kabonga forest, where they were struck by a missile. Similar operations in the North-Central region thwarted another attack on a convoy in Pensa. High-precision strikes eliminated the threat, giving the terrorists no chance of survival.

Near Boulsa, in Tanyoko, terrorists on motorcycles attacked a VDP position. Despite being outnumbered, the VDP forces displayed courage and determination, successfully repelling the assault. Air support pursued the fleeing attackers towards Boala and Koumestenga, resulting in further neutralization of the threat. Ground troops conducted search operations, uncovering charred remains of terrorists and recovering equipment.

These operations, part of Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security, demonstrate the military’s vigilance and effectiveness against terrorist threats.
