Angola’s Agricultural Sector to Receive Significant Budget Increase in 2024

Luanda, Angola – Angola’s Agricultural and Livestock Production Promotion Programme is set to receive a substantial boost in funding, with a budget allocation of 148.3 billion kwanzas proposed for 2024. This figure represents 0.60% of the General State Budget (GSB) for 2024, which anticipates revenues and expenses estimated at 24.7 trillion kwanzas.

According to Angola Press News Agency, currently under discussion and awaiting approval by the National Assembly, this allocation marks a significant increase from the current GSB/2023. The proposed budget for agriculture in 2024 is 94.1 billion kwanzas higher than the 54.1 billion allocated in 2023.

Of the total amount earmarked for agriculture, 79 billion kwanzas (0.32%) will support an average annual area of 1.86 hectares per family. Additionally, the budget plans to allocate 7.7 billion kwanzas (0.03%) to five Agrarian Development Station (EDA) units, 1.9 billion (0.01%) for the distribution of 4,465 tons of seeds, and 757 million for four units of irrigated perimeters. Moreover, about 10 million kwanzas are allocated for the production of 7.6 million tons of cereals, including corn, maize, and rice.

The budget also includes funding for coffee production, with 12,360 tons of coffee valued at 10 billion kwanzas (0.04%). Agri-food quality laboratories and agronomic research infrastructures will receive 400 million and 11.5 billion kwanzas, respectively.

In the livestock sector, the State Budget plans to provide over 15 billion kwanzas for the production of 440,261 tons of meat. More than 16 billion kwanzas are allocated for animal vaccination, and over 5 billion kwanzas for the Bioveterinary Center and Vaccine Factory of Huambo.

The forestry sector is also set to benefit, with a planned allocation of 12 billion kwanzas (0.05%) for the exploitation and sustainable management of forest resources. This includes 1.8 billion kwanzas for planting 96 hectares of forest and 10.2 billion for Forest Warehouses and Forestry and Beekeeping Development Stations. Additionally, 350 million kwanzas will support the production of 84 tons of honey.
