China Provides Humanitarian Assistance to Flood-Affected Somalia

MOGADISHU – The Chinese government has extended a helping hand to Somalia, offering humanitarian assistance in the wake of severe flooding in the country. Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Fei Shangchao, handed over the flood relief aid to Mahamud Moallim, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA).

According to Somali National News Agency, Ambassador Fei expressed China’s empathetic response to Somalia’s plight, noting the significant casualties and property losses caused by the floods. China’s aid package includes 1 million yuan (approximately 140,000 USD) in emergency cash assistance and over 1,000 tons of emergency food aid. This assistance is aimed at supporting Somalia’s disaster relief efforts and is part of China’s broader vision of creating a community with a shared future for mankind. China’s contribution marks the first direct international humanitarian assistance to Somalia following the floods.

In response, Moallim expressed gratitude for China’s timely and generous assistance, assuring that the aid will be used effectively to provide relief to those affected by the disaster. This gesture of support is indicative of the strong bilateral relationship between China and Somalia and highlights China’s role in international humanitarian efforts.
