Burkina Faso-Russia cooperation: working session between Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and Vladimir POUTINE at the Constantin Palace

The President of the Transition, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and his delegation had a working session on Saturday at the end of the morning with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir POUTINE who was on the occasion surrounded by of his close associates.

This working session was an opportunity for the two Heads of State to reaffirm the solidity of their relationship and the firm will to work to strengthen it. On this occasion, the President of the Transition signified the ardent friendship between the peoples of Burkina Faso and Russia. President Vladimir PUTIN who thanked the President of the Transition for his participation in the 2nd Russia-Africa summit underlined that “the ties between our countries are friendly”.

As part of the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, President PUTIN has decided to reopen the Russian Embassy, which has been closed since 1992. “The work of our ambassador will give impetus to the development of our relations”, a- he argued.

During the work, the Head of State Captain Ibrahim TRAORE also wished to strengthen trade between the Russian Federation and Burkina Faso. Indeed, our country has a wide variety of products that could be of interest to Russian partners.

According to the Head of State, during bilateral meetings during the Economic Forum, products such as mango, cashew and other agricultural products have aroused interest among Russian partners.

Also, the Head of State has invited Russian entrepreneurs to build processing plants for some of these products in Burkina. “This will contribute to intensifying our commercial exchanges”, explained the President of the Transition.

The issues of electrical energy and hydrocarbons were addressed by Captain Ibrahim TRAORE who supported Burkina Faso’s desire to facilitate the construction, if possible, of a nuclear power plant in our country to produce electricity and, to redirect ” the majority of our hydrocarbon imports to Russia”.

“We will attach particular importance to the development of relations with Burkina Faso”, declared the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir PUTIN. To this end, “we are ready to work together to develop economic and commercial cooperation between our two countries”, President POUTINE maintained.

The President of the Russian Federation noted good cooperation between the two countries within the UN and within other international organizations. He announced the granting of humanitarian aid of 10 million dollars to several African countries through the World Food Program (WFP), of which 2.5 million dollars will be earmarked for Burkina Faso.
