Easter Celebrations and CSO Certification Dominate Burkina Faso’s Headlines

OUAGADOUGOU – Burkina Faso’s latest publications highlight two major topics: the certification of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) aimed at enhancing the sector’s credibility and the celebration of Easter, underscoring the core of the Christian faith.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Easter celebration, or the resurrection of Christ, is emphasized as the foundation of Christian faith. Father Paul Dah mentioned that after a 40-day period of penance and prayer, the Catholic faithful are set to observe Easter on March 31. Echoing this sentiment, L’Observateur Paalga quotes Abbé Silvère Pingdwendé, highlighting the significance of Christ’s triumph over death as not only the culmination of his earthly mission but also the beginning of a spiritual journey towards an ultimate encounter with the Creator.

In a different vein, the certification of CSOs in Burkina Faso has been spotlighted as a crucial step towards environmental betterment. Le Pays reports on a gathering organized on March 28, 2024, by the permanent secretariat of non-governmental organizations (SPONG) and the Burkinabè fundraising association (ABF). This meeting in Ouagadougou was convened to deliberate on the certification process for CSOs and NGOs operating within the country, marking a pivotal move towards enhancing the operational environment of these organizations.

L’Observateur Paalga further elaborates that the Burkinabè fundraising association, with the backing of a Dutch NGO, has introduced a program named “Giving for Change.” This initiative aims to foster positive changes within the CSO and development association landscape in Burkina Faso by supporting CSOs through capacity building for local resource mobilization, ultimately contributing to endogenous community development.
