Japan Donates Biometric Registration Equipment to Burkina Faso’s Ministry for IDP Assistance

OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant development aimed at enhancing the registration process of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Burkina Faso, the Republic of Japan has contributed equipment valued at 93 million FCFA to the nation’s Ministry of Humanitarian Action. The donation includes 200,000 registration cards, 120 fingerprint sensors, and 120 power bank batteries.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this gesture forms a crucial part of Japan’s support for the biometric registration and profiling of IDPs in Burkina Faso. Ambassador Nagashima Jun of Japan underscored that this initiative is a multifaceted project designed to assist Burkina Faso in leveraging digital technology to foster its developmental agenda.

Expressing gratitude for the Japanese support, Minister Nandy Somé/Diallo highlighted the impact of this donation on the progression of IDP registration efforts within the country. Nonetheless, she acknowledged the ongoing challenges in extending biometric registration capabilities across all regions of Burkina Faso, emphasizing the need for sustained effort and international cooperation in addressing the complexities associated with IDP management and support.
