The Regional Director of Post-Primary and Secondary Education (DREPS) of the Boucle du Mouhoun, Dr Denis Vimboué, initiated, on Tuesday March 21, 2023, an exchange meeting with the staff of the Lycée provincial of Dédougou, after the death of a student on March 17 following a shooting incident involving another student.

It was with a minute of silence in memory of the student Moctar Ouattara who fell following a shooting incident involving one of his comrades that the meeting began.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss with the staff of the establishment on the prevailing situation, to find solutions to avoid these types of situations and finally to solicit the commitment of the staff for the normal resumption of educational activities.

According to the Regional Director, as soon as the tragedy occurred, the competent administrative and judicial authorities were contacted so that they could be informed of the situation and receive directives for a peaceful management of the situation.

Similarly, the customary and religious authorities of the city of Dédougou have been involved in the management of this tragedy which afflicts the entire community.

From this situation, Dr. Denis Vimboué retains several lessons which are among others the reality of violence within establishments, the consumption of drugs, alcohol and other narcotics by students and early sexuality in establishments.

The consequences of these scourges in the school environment accentuate the considerable drop in school results.

While deploring the situation, he encouraged the school staff to invest in the management of the crisis and invited them to remobilize so that this tragedy does not negatively affect educational activities.

“I am counting on you to ensure that normal life at the Provincial High School resumes,” he said.

Giving the floor to the actors, the speakers underlined the need to initiate awareness sessions for the benefit of students and parents, to review the site of the establishment which has become restricted with low fence, overcrowded classes hence the need to increase the number of staff responsible for school life.

Also, in order to stem these kinds of situation in schools, the actors praised the initiative of the meeting and wished that the environment of the establishments be cleaned up in order to offer an ideal framework for learning and learning. education of students.

As a reminder, it was on the evening of Friday March 17, 2023 that a student in the 4th grade lost his life following an incident of shooting a firearm by one of his comrades. The file of this tragedy is in the hands of the competent judicial authorities.
