Cuito: At least 537,715 patients with various complications were assisted at the Cuito Orthopaedic and Physical Rehabilitation Centre during the year 2024, compared to 203,377 from the previous year, ANGOP found out on Monday. Speaking about the activities of the last year, the director of the institution, AmSndio Malangue, informed that the increase in specialized services is a goal of the unit which is aimed to also receive patients from other provinces.
According to Angola Press News Agency, most of the patients were observed with bone fractures, as a result of road access, deflagration of explosive devices, stroke, osteoarthritis, as well as signs of poliomyelitis and congenital deformities. AmSndio Malangue stated that of those assisted, there are 348 citizens who were placed in prosthesis (lower limbs) and 713 with orthoses (upper limbs).
He noted that, in the period under analysis, the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Centre placed and submitted 1,745 patients to plaster therapy, as well as applying 56 orthopaedic shoes to the same number of beneficiaries. AmSndio Malangue also said that over the past year the physical rehabilitation unit distributed 30 wheelchairs and 103 pairs of crutches, as well as 532,732 patients undergoing various physiotherapy sessions.
