Cryptocurrency Scam Suspects Granted Bail in Windhoek

WINDHOEK: In a recent court ruling, five individuals implicated in an alleged cryptocurrency scam were granted bail of N.dollars 20,000 each.

According to The Namibia Press Agency, The accused, Tango Muulyau, Shi Zi Jun, Lin Shu Lin, Chen You Yi, and Carlos Alejandro, are charged alongside several others in a scheme involving the recruitment of young Namibians for fraudulent activities.

The suspects, arrested on October 3, 2023, face multiple charges, including trafficking, fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion. They allegedly deceived young Namibians with fake job offers, then trained them to scam U.S. citizens through social media, convincing them to invest in cryptocurrency. Magistrate Mutafela Likando denied bail to the remaining suspects, citing the preliminary stage of investigations into this complex case. The granted bail comes with strict conditions, including regular police station reporting and restrictions on travel. The case is adjourned until February 15, 2024, for further investigation.
