Nyamira Initiates Digital Registration for Mass Distribution of Mosquito Nets

NYAMIRA – The County Government of Nyamira has initiated a digital registration campaign for households to facilitate the mass distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs). This move is part of a broader effort to combat malaria, particularly during the upcoming rainy season.

According to Kenya New Agency, the official launch of the digital registration process aims to enroll households to benefit from the ITN distribution program. The county has set a target to register approximately 548,000 people. Maina emphasized the simplicity of the registration process, which requires only identification cards and mobile phone numbers.

Community Health Promoters (CHPs), who have received extensive training in handling digital registration gadgets and sensitizing residents, are leading the registration drive. The campaign, which is set to conclude on December 24th, involves collaboration between CHPs and village elders, ensuring familiarity and trust in the process.

Elijah Abere, the chairperson of the health committee at Nyamira County Assembly, stressed the importance of the program. He urged residents to register to receive the ITNs, highlighting their crucial role in preventing malaria. Abere also announced that the distribution of ITNs would commence on January 6th.

In addition to facilitating distribution, the digital registration system is designed to provide accurate data on the number of beneficiaries and the county’s ITN requirements. This information is critical for procurement processes and ensuring accountability regarding the allocation of resources.

Residents are encouraged to provide precise household information to the CHPs. This accuracy is vital for health officers and malaria program coordinators to allocate a sufficient number of ITNs, ensuring comprehensive coverage and leaving no one out.
