Beijing: China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, has emphasized the importance of joint efforts between China and Japan to foster stable and enduring bilateral relations while upholding regional and international peace and stability. Wang Yi, a key figure in the Communist Party of China and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, delivered these remarks via video at the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Wang highlighted the deep-rooted history of exchanges between China and Japan, spanning over 2,000 years, and acknowledged the significant milestone of over 50 years since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations. He asserted that a well-directed China-Japan relationship holds immense significance not only for the two nations and their people but also for regional and global peace and development.

Wang urged both nations to adhere to the important consensus reached by their leaders, maintain the original aspirations of their relations, and pursue the ri
ght path to foster stable and lasting bilateral ties. He emphasized the need for understanding the correct positioning of their relationship, viewing each other as cooperative partners rather than threats.

He stressed the importance of preserving the political foundations established by the four political documents between China and Japan, cautioning against any attempts to undermine these foundations. Wang advocated for an open strategy of mutual benefits, encouraging both countries to cherish their existing cooperation and work together to uphold the stability of the global free trade system and industrial supply chains.

In his speech, Wang also called for joint efforts to maintain regional and international peace amid rising unilateralism and protectionism. He urged China and Japan to collaborate in safeguarding Asian unity and cooperation to prevent external forces from inciting confrontation.

Wang expressed hope that the Beijing-Tokyo Forum would continue to facilitate candid exchanges, build consensu
s, and offer constructive suggestions for the development of China-Japan relations in line with the demands of the new era. The forum, established in 2005, serves as an annual platform for high-level, interactive exchanges between the two nations, held alternately in Beijing and Tokyo.
