President Ramaphosa to address Joint Sitting of Parliament on National State of Disaster oversight

President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, 26 April 2022, address a hybrid Joint Sitting of the National Council of Province and the National Assembly on the oversight role Parliament and other institutions or sectors of society could play in the country’s response to the natural disaster that has affected KwaZulu-Natal.

The Joint Sitting was called by the President on 20 April 2022, in terms of Section 84(2)(d) of the Constitution.

The President is inviting Parliament to ensure that resources reserved for social and economic assistance following recent floods reach the intended beneficiaries.

Government’s response is unfolding in three phases: firstly, immediate humanitarian relief, ensuring that all affected persons are safe and that their basic needs are met.

Secondly, building shelters for people who have lost their homes and restoring provision of services.

Thirdly, on reconstruction and rebuilding of infrastructure.

Tomorrow’s hybrid sitting will take place at 14h00 from the Cape of Good Hope Chambers.

It will be livestreamed on PresidencyZA platforms.
