Tuy’s Child Protection Network Reviews Yearly Achievements in Houndé

Houndé – The Child Protection Network (RPE) of Tuy conducted its annual general meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Houndé, where it reviewed its activities for the year 2023.

According to Burkina Information Agency, an official at the provincial directorate in charge of humanitarian action in Tuy, the network undertook numerous activities in the past year. These included organizing four conferences on child victims of violence and abuse, managing two cases of excision, providing psychosocial care and family reintegration for two children in mobility situations, and enrolling 157 internally displaced and vulnerable children in schools. Additionally, the RPE handled 15 cases of child marriage and 14 cases of lost children.

The operation of RPE/Tuy, however, faces several challenges. The network grapples with a lack of emergency funds for child care, insufficient training for its members, inadequate financing for its action plan, and a shortage of foster families.

Yazouma Alexis Doh, the provincial director in charge of humanitarian action and interim coordinator of RPE/Tuy, described the network as a collaborative platform comprising state structures, associations, and NGOs working in child protection in the province. He acknowledged the effective synergy among child protection actors in Tuy but expressed concern over some actors not yet participating in the network. “We aim to involve everyone in this crucial framework to support children facing numerous challenges in the province,” Doh stated.

Doh highlighted specific challenges faced by children in the region, including those traveling on the Ouaga-Bobo axis and those working under harsh conditions, particularly in gold panning sites. He considered the results of RPE/Tuy’s activities to be quite satisfactory and called for increased participation from all child protection workers to create a more effective intervention synergy for children in difficult situations.
