TENKODOGO – During a recent visit on March 7 and 8, 2024, to the Center-East region of Burkina Faso, President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, met with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) stationed at the Tenkodogo garrison. The purpose of his visit was to commend their efforts in combating terrorism and to discuss strategies for bolstering regional security and protection for the local population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the armed forces and VDP have achieved significant victories and are currently taking offensive measures against terrorist groups. However, he acknowledged the presence of challenges that complicate the conflict and expressed his intention to evaluate the defense posture of the forces in the region. The Head of State emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and bolstering defensive and self-defense capabilities.

Highlighting the positive impact of the security forces, Captain Traoré noted that areas previously under terrorist control are now experiencing a resurgence of normalcy, with people able to resume their work, which he described as a source of national pride. Despite these successes, he cautioned that the battle against terrorism is far from over, urging the FDS and VDP to avoid complacency and to intensify their efforts in defense of the country.

The President called for the VDP, their instructors, and all fighting units in the Center-East region to enhance their protection strategies, self-defense techniques, and to actively share experiences and initiatives for more effective action against threats. He stressed the importance of discipline and full participation from each member of the forces, reminding them of their responsibility towards the safety of the populace.
