Bobo-Dioulasso – Adama Guira, the defensive midfielder for Burkina Faso’s national football team, the Stallions, has been ruled out of the remainder of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) due to injury, as announced by the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF).
According to the Burkina Information Agency, Guira sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon ligament in his left foot during the match against Algeria. The injury was confirmed after medical examinations carried out by the team’s medical staff. Initially, there was concern that Guira might have injured his right knee during the first game against Mauritania, but it was later discovered to be a separate, more severe injury. The federation expects that this injury will sideline the midfielder for a period of four to six months.
Before his departure, 35-year-old Guira, a native of Bobo-Dioulasso and part of the Charles Kaboré promotion, was visited by his teammates at the hotel. They expressed their support and solidarity during this challenging time. The FBF also noted that Guira is set to return to his club in Spain for surgical treatment.
Given the severity of the injury and his age, this incident might mark the end of Guira’s participation in the CAN tournaments and potentially his last matches with the Stallions.
