Burkina Faso Rallies in Support of Transitional Government

OUAGADOUGOU—In a significant display of public support, residents across Burkina Faso have taken to the streets in rallies led predominantly by the youth and backed by notable figures. The demonstrations, spanning from March 9 to 10, were organized to express solidarity with the transitional government headed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Participants paid tribute to the leaders and members of the patriotic citizen watch initiatives. In the capital city, the African Movement for Total Independence (MALIT) convened a citizen watch gathering at the Tampouy roundabout, showing support for the nation’s leadership and recognizing the contributions of key citizen watch actors. Among the attendees was activist Mohamadi Autre, previously convicted for criticizing the gendarmerie’s anti-terrorism efforts but later released following the withdrawal of charges. Meanwhile, in the northern city of Dori, citizens under the Burkina Ramparts Federation banner marched to endorse the Head of State and his cabinet for their decisive stand against imperialism, their withdrawal from the ECOWAS, and their efforts to empower women and reclaim national territory.
