Burkina Faso Launches IRO-TEXBURKINA Textile Complex to Revitalize Central-West’s Industrial Sector

SOURGOU – In a significant move towards industrial revitalization, Burkina Faso’s President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traore, inaugurated the construction of the IRO-TEXBURKINA textile complex. This development aligns with the nation’s broader industrialization strategy, aimed at enhancing local product transformation and job creation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative to build this textile complex was revealed during his visit to Koudougou last January. Emphasizing the importance of localizing cotton processing units in areas foundational to the industry, Traore highlighted Burkina Faso’s commitment to industrializing regions with unique characteristics. This approach, he stated, is crucial for generating employment opportunities and ensuring the prosperity of the country’s youth.

The project, a collaboration between the government and key partners including the Burkinabè Textile Fiber Company (SOFITEX), the Burkina Faso Economic and Social Development Fund (FBDES), and the National Union of Cotton Producers of Burkina Faso (UNPCB), aims for swift and efficient execution in accordance with the project specifications. Traore called upon the local communities to embrace and support this venture.

IRO-TEXBURKINA plans to establish a production unit spanning 42 hectares in Sourgou and another 50 hectares in Boromo, with a total investment of 165 billion FCFA. This ambitious endeavor is expected to create over 4,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs across both sites, significantly impacting the local economy and the textile sector at large.

In his address, President Traore extended an invitation to economic operators interested in investing in Burkina Faso, assuring them of the government’s support through various incentives designed to facilitate their business activities within the country.
