ECOWAS intervention in Niger will be short-term

The intervention of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Niger will be carried out “in the short term” and “will aim to restore constitutional order in the country”, announced the Commissioner for peace and security Abdel-Fatau Musah at the end of the meeting of the chiefs of staff in Accra, capital of Ghana.

“Any intervention in Nigerien affairs will be short-term and will aim to restore constitutional order,” said the commissioner, relayed by Al Jazeera.

“We are ready to enter Niger as soon as the order is given. If we carry out a military intervention in Niger, we will not declare war on it,” explained the commissioner.
