Burkina Faso Announces Commanders for New Rapid Intervention Battalions


Ouagadougou – In a significant move to bolster its military capabilities, Burkina Faso has officially appointed commanders for the five newly established Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR). The appointments were announced this Friday by President Ibrahim Traoré, following the creation of these battalions on January 5, 2024.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 21st BIR, based in Titao, will be commanded by Captain Fouonou Samuel Dah. Captain Antoine Mitikogodé Kissou has been assigned to lead the 22nd BIR in Djibo.



The 23rd BIR, located in Toma, will operate under the leadership of Captain Teegwendé Laurent Zallé. In Kantchari, Captain Banontiyel Eric Somé is set to command the 24th BIR. Finally, the 25th BIR in Pama will be under the command of Captain Sidiki Dao. These appointments are part of Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to enhance its defense and security forces amidst regional challenges.
