Bungoma Governor Calls for Professionalism Among Accountants

BUNGOMA – Governor Kenneth Lusaka has made a direct appeal to accountants for professional integrity in their work. During the wrap-up of a workshop for Western region accountants under the umbrella of ICPAK at Sawan Hotel in Bungoma town, the governor underscored the significant role of accountants in national development.

According to Kenya News Agency, financial management is fundamental to the success of any organization and he urged accountants to adhere to their professional standards. “Finance is the engine of every organization. Remain steadfast in your work. Don’t be compromised, you’ll be crucified for corruption,” he cautioned, signaling the severe repercussions of ethical lapses in their profession.

The governor also praised the impact of devolution in enhancing county governance and growing local economies. By utilizing local venues for professional events such as the accountants’ workshop, Lusaka pointed out that devolution is proving its value by promoting economic activity within the counties.

Furthermore, Lusaka highlighted the critical nature of finance within organizational structures, likening it to a “goose with golden eggs” that must be protected to ensure organizational health and compliance with the law. He made it clear that rigorous auditing practices are a safeguard against legal issues, “Audit starts and ends with finance. Any missing details can easily land one in the arms of the law,” he emphasized, reminding the professionals of the consequences of negligence.
