Bungoma: Bungoma County Commissioner Thomas Sankei has urged local residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ensure continued access to health cover services. Speaking at Mayuba Stadium in Sirisia during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Sankei highlighted several key issues facing the community, including health concerns and security challenges.
According to Kenya News Agency, Sankei addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of SHA registration for maintaining healthcare benefits. Additionally, he raised an alert about a recently diagnosed case of Mpox in the area, urging residents to adhere strictly to guidelines provided by health officials to prevent the spread of the disease.
On the topic of local security, the County Commissioner reported that motorcycle and cattle theft were prevalent, detracting from the overall safety of the community. He appealed to the public to refrain from such activities to enhance security across the county. Sankei also praised the cooperative efforts
between his office and the county government, which he credited with improving service delivery to residents.
This event marked the first time the county’s Mashujaa Day celebrations were held in Sirisia, drawing a large turnout from the community. Deputy Governor Jennifer Mbatiany also spoke at the event, detailing the county government’s plans to complete previously stalled projects. Mbatiany, delivering the Governor’s speech, outlined a plan for road development across each ward, pending the selection of contractors.
The event was further dignified by the presence of Sirisia Member of Parliament, Retired Major John Waluke, among other local leaders.
