Athiriver MCA Advocates for Support of Children’s Homes

Athiriver – Jeremiah Kaloi, the Member of County Assembly for Athiriver, has called on partners and organizations to support children’s homes, emphasizing the potential of the children in these facilities. Kaloi made this appeal during his visit to the Bondeni Children’s Home and Rescue Center in Athiriver, Machakos County, where he distributed food items to the children.

According to Kenya News Agency, who addressed the gathering at the center, there is a significant need for support from the numerous factories and companies in Athiriver. He urged these entities to collaborate in aiding children’s homes in the area. Bondeni Children’s Home and Rescue Center, which started in 2014 as a feeding program for street children and orphans in the Bondeni slums of Athiriver, has evolved into a leading institution in Machakos County, focusing on rehabilitating and educating orphans and vulnerable children.

During his interaction, Kaloi engaged in singing and dancing with the orphans, expressing his fatherly affection and reassuring them of his support and trust. Highlighting the achievements of the children at the center, he mentioned a student who scored 373 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), despite facing numerous challenges. “There is a student here who scored 373 marks, which shows we have bright students at the rescue center who, if well mentored, will contribute to society’s development,” Kaloi stated.

He emphasized that orphans in children’s homes and rescue centers should be prioritized for bursaries to facilitate their access to education. Kaloi also appealed to well-wishers to extend their support to children’s homes in Athiriver and Machakos County, to help transform the lives of these children and combat poverty.
