Migori Transport Association Partners with County Government to Support Youth in Obtaining Driving Licenses

MIGORI, Kenya — The Migori Transporter-Pick-Up Car Association has committed to collaborating with the Migori County government to facilitate the acquisition of driving licenses for local youth. This announcement came from the newly elected Chairperson, Thomas Indire, during the association’s elections at the Migori Green Stadium. Indire outlined the association’s plans to work closely with the Office of the Governor, aiming to aid youth in securing driving licenses as a means of fostering job creation within the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, the association is set to ensure professionalism and proper specialization in the transport sector, promising a conducive and healthier leadership environment. He also revealed plans to sponsor needy students, whose parents are registered members of the association, to attend high schools across the county.

The association’s Treasurer, Ms. Julian Otieno, expressed a commitment to working tirelessly and transparently towards achieving the association’s goals, including recruiting more qualified members to streamline the transport sector. Otieno also made a call to women, encouraging their participation in the association’s activities to empower themselves economically. Highlighting the traditionally male-dominated nature of the transport sector, Otieno urged women to seize the opportunities available to them.

Members of the association raised concerns about the high fuel prices and the scarcity of parking spaces in Migori town, identifying these as key challenges that have negatively impacted their profit margins. They appealed to both the county and national governments to address these issues to help them navigate the economic difficulties facing the transport sector.
