Ouagadougou: The 8th edition of the PAX Sahel Prize for Conflict-Sensitive Journalism (JsC) 2024 has registered 40 works in competition. The award ceremony will be held on December 13, with the participation of Malian and Nigerien journalists, the organizing committee of the said prize announced Thursday in Ouagadougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a total of 40 journalistic works produced between October 1, 2023, and October 10, 2024, will compete for this 8th edition of the PAX Sahel Prize. They are distributed as follows: 19 works in the written and online press category, 4 in the television/Mojo category, and 17 in the radio category.
The 2024 edition also sees the participation of Malian and Nigerian journalists, with 8 and 4 works in the running respectively.
According to the president of the Journalists’ Initiative Network (RIJ), initiator of the PAX Sahel prize, Jean Careem Kaboré, this distinction aims to promote excellence in the treatment of information relating to conflicts in the S
ahel.
Mr. Kaboré specified that the winners of the official prizes of this edition will each receive a trophy, a certificate, and a sum of 500,000 FCFA. A special prize, called the Koffi Amétpé Prize for Integration (in tribute to the first coordinator of the RIJ in 2001), financed by the elders of the RIJ, is also planned.
The 8th edition of the PAX Sahel Prize will take place under the patronage of the Minister of State, Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, and under the sponsorship of the President of the National Council of the Informal Economy (CNEI-BF), Salif Nikiema.
The RIJ president also launched an appeal to partners to complete the budget for this 2024 edition of the PAX Sahel prize.
