88 more people rescued off the Canary Islands

MADRID— Eighty-eight people, including ten women and four minors, were rescued from two vessels that were close to Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, by the Spanish Maritime Rescue.

The first boat was located after 11 pm on Tuesday by a rescue helicopter and assisted by the Guardamar Concepción Arenal ship, said a spokesman for the Canary Islands emergency service.

On board were 55 people of sub-Saharan origin: Forty-seven men, seven women and one minor, all in good condition.

On the second vessel, which also received help from Guadamar Concepción Arenal, were 33 people of North African origin, including 3 minors, 3 women and 27 men, one of whom was taken to hospital for having a leg injury.

These 88 people landed at the port of Arrecife, on the island of Lanzarote.
