PM Abiy Advocates for Stronger Unity Among African Nations to Tap Into Continent’s Potential

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the necessity of increased unity and collaboration among African Union (AU) member states to fully realize the continent’s potential.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been actively engaging in bilateral meetings with the leaders of Burundi, Angola, Mozambique, and Nigeria. The discussions have centered on fostering joint development initiatives. “Harnessing our continent’s potential requires enhanced collaboration and solidarity among all member states,” Abiy remarked, highlighting the importance of these interactions for the collective progress of the continent.

The conversations took place against the backdrop of the 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, which saw the gathering of several African leaders and heads of international organizations. The summit serves as a critical platform for dialogue on the advancement of unity and development across Africa.

Addressing the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, he emphasized the shared heritage and potential for collaboration between the two regions.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the link between Brazil and Africa is strengthened by the significant Afro-Brazilian population, which accounts for over 200 million Brazilians. He underscored the importance of jointly crafting a pathway within the evolving international landscape, aiming to establish a novel framework for global governance capable of addressing contemporary issues.

The President critiqued the outdated approach of minimal state intervention, highlighting the necessity for governments worldwide to support agricultural and industrial development actively. He pointed out the importance of governmental role in guiding the digital and energy transitions, areas critical for future development.

Lula da Silva lauded the achievements of the BRICS alliance in facilitating cooperation among emerging economies and stressed the vital role of developing nations in solving global crises, particularly those affecting the impoverished and migrants most severely. He explicitly rejected extreme right-wing solutions to these challenges, advocating instead for inclusive social projects that guarantee prosperity, freedom, democracy, and sovereignty for everyone.

Emphasizing the need for a more representative United Nations Security Council, Lula da Silva called for greater inclusion of African and Latin American countries. He recognized Africa’s vast potential and committed to Brazil’s engagement with the continent to achieve mutual growth. The President outlined Brazil’s dedication to regaining political and economic sovereignty, enhancing participatory democracy, and fighting hunger and poverty, alongside promoting inclusive education.

Furthermore, Lula da Silva expressed Brazil’s eagerness to partner with African nations in key areas such as food production, renewable energy, healthcare, and environmental conservation, with a particular focus on the protection of the Amazon and Congo basins.

To facilitate these ambitions, he proposed the establishment of an advanced cooperation post with the African Union, marking a concrete step towards strengthening ties between Africa and Brazil.

These rumors, which suggested a mass movement of populations seeking refuge, have been debunked by local residents and confirmed through official checks.



According to Burkina Information Agency, reports circulated on social media on Saturday, February 17, alleging that several villages within the province were deserting their homes to take shelter in Solenzo due to unspecified threats. However, after thorough verification with both local authorities and the inhabitants of the said villages, it has been clarified that these reports are baseless. No village cited in the social media posts has been under any threat that would necessitate such movements.

Burkina Faso Invests 124 Billion FCFA in Urban Mobility and Development


OUAGADOUGOU – The Government of Burkina Faso has initiated a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing mobility and development in four major cities: Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Kaya, and Ouahigouya. The project, with a total investment of 124 billion FCFA, seeks to improve the economic landscape and public health in these urban areas.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was officially launched on February 17, 2024, in Bobo-Dioulasso. Over the course of 60 months, the project will distribute its resources among the cities, allocating 51 billion FCFA to Bobo-Dioulasso, 30 billion FCFA to Ouahigouya, 29 billion FCFA to Kaya, and 14 billion FCFA to Ouagadougou. This financial distribution underscores the government’s commitment to balanced regional development and enhanced urban mobility.



The launch event was attended by key government officials, including Roland Somda, Minister of Transport; Serge G. Poda, Minister of Commerce; Ismaël Sombié, Minister of Agriculture; and Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, Minister of Communication, representing the head of government. The World Bank’s support for this project highlights its significance and potential impact on the cities’ development.
