Burkina Faso Invests 124 Billion FCFA in Urban Mobility and Development

OUAGADOUGOU - The Government of Burkina Faso has initiated a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing mobility and development in four major cities: Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Kaya, and Ouahigouya. The project, with a total investment of 124 billion FCFA, seeks to improve the economic landscape and public health in these urban areas.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was officially launched on February 17, 2024, in Bobo-Dioulasso. Over the course of 60 months, the project will distribute its resources among the cities, allocating 51 billion FCFA to Bobo-Dioulasso, 30 billion FCFA to Ouahigouya, 29 billion FCFA to Kaya, and 14 billion FCFA to Ouagadougou. This financial distribution underscores the government's commitment to balanced regional development and enhanced urban mobility.

The launch event was attended by key government officials, including Roland Somda, Minister of Transport; Serge G. Poda, Minister of Commerce; Ismaël Sombié, Minister of Agriculture; and Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, Minister of Communication, representing the head of government. The World Bank's support for this project highlights its significance and potential impact on the cities' development.

By focusing on these urban centers, the government aims to catalyze economic growth and improve living conditions for residents, addressing both infrastructure needs and public health improvements through enhanced mobility solutions.
