Burkina: Nearly 192 thousand IDPs return home


As of August 31, 2023, 191,937 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their respective localities in the different regions of Burkina Faso, the government announced, in council of ministers this Wednesday, September 20.



“As of August 31, 2023, 191,937 IDPs returned to their locality



respective localities in the different regions of the country,” reads the minutes of the government meeting.



The same document specifies that in order to encourage the return of other IDPs to their locality of origin, the government has implemented a certain number of actions in addition to those already underway.



“The actions to come concern the continued consolidation of pacified areas, the return of the administration, the continuation of awareness-raising actions towards IDPs and populations, the systematic supply of localities of return with drinking water, in food and not food,” we note.



According to the report of the council of ministers, emphasis will also be placed on the rehabilitation of socio-educational, hydraulic, health and road infrastructure and the implementation of recovery actions, in accordance with the National Recovery Strategy, namely support the implementation of income-generating activities, support for the reconstruction of housing, the reconstitution of livestock and the production of the dry countryside.
