Nairobi to Host Second Annual Africa Media Festival in February 2024

Nairobi, Kenya – The upcoming 2024 edition of the Africa Media Festival, organized by Baraza Media Lab, is scheduled for February 21st to 22nd at the Nairobi National Museum. This event follows the successful inaugural festival in 2023, which attracted over 650 attendees from 18 African countries and beyond.

According to Kenya News Agency, the theme for the 2024 festival is ‘What’s Next in Media’, focusing on fostering innovative ideas to advance the African media landscape. The previous year’s festival served as a crucial platform for media stakeholders to address challenges and celebrate successes within the industry. Key topics included the use of disruptive technologies, the necessity for proactive policy frameworks, and redefining perceptions of African media.

The 2024 Africa Media Festival aims to build on these discussions with several objectives. These include celebrating cutting-edge innovations in the media sector, enhancing knowledge sharing on emerging trends and practices, and sparking cross-disciplinary conversations to promote regional media excellence. The festival will gather a diverse group of stakeholders, ranging from investors and media owners to social media influencers and government officials.

The event targets 600 delegates over two days and expects to feature insightful speakers, including writers, journalists, cartoonists, AI technologists, and other media professionals. The festival will offer opportunities for networking with industry leaders, engaging with emerging technologies through hackathons, witnessing innovative media-tech ideas, and participating in pre-and post-conference meetups.

Christine Mungai, Lead Curator at Baraza Media Lab and Festival Curator, expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s potential to highlight future media trends and innovations. The 2024 festival will showcase various formats, such as panels, workshops, masterclasses, keynotes, and artistic performances, with a significant shift from the 2023 edition by focusing on more intimate and collaborative activities.
