Limpopo SAPS and Auxiliary Team Join in Fun Walk to Combat Gender-Based Violence

Polokwane – In a show of solidarity and awareness, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, led by Provincial Head of Auxiliary, Colonel Philimon Kekana, along with the Auxiliary team and Men For Change members, participated in a 5-kilometer fun walk on Friday, November 24, 2023. The event, held at the Polokwane APD Hall Conference Center in Penina Park, was organized to combat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.

According to South African Police Service, the fun walk was more than just a physical activity. It was followed by a crime awareness campaign at two shopping outlets in the Polokwane Central Business District, located at the corners of Landross Mare and Grobler Streets, and Devenish and Joubert Streets. The campaign focused on several key issues:

Distributing pamphlets on Gender-Based Violence.

Providing bank safety tips.

Advising consumers against carrying large sums of money during travel or shopping.

Warning against the purchase of stolen goods.

Highlighting the issue of Stokvel robberies.

Emphasizing the importance of caring for vulnerable people.

Colonel Kekana also took the opportunity to inspire and motivate his team, emphasizing the need for unity, effective communication, and common goals. He stressed the importance of men loving and protecting their families, respecting their work, and avoiding unnecessary conflicts in the workplace. His concluding remarks highlighted the SAPS’s commitment to both community safety and internal harmony among its members.
